- Les « fews » inversés ne sont pas un signe de malheur — ils indiquent généralement que vous vous racontez une histoire un peu trop embellie.
- Beith et Iodhadh, le bouleau et l'if, encadrent l'alphabet, symbolisant le commencement et l'héritage. Tirer ces deux signes est un puissant indicateur qu'un cycle complet s'achève.

L'Ogham est avant tout un véritable alphabet. Environ quatre cents inscriptions subsistent sur des pierres dressées en Irlande, au Pays de Galles et sur l'île de Man. La plupart datent du IVe au VIe siècle, gravées sous forme d'entailles le long du bord de la pierre et lues de bas en haut.
Les associations avec les arbres proviennent d'une tradition manuscrite ultérieure — l'Auraicept na n-Éces et les glossaires Bríatharogam — qui associent chaque lettre à des kennings, et souvent à un arbre. Toutes les figures ne sont pas de simples arbres ; plusieurs des gloses traditionnelles sont contestées et certaines sont clairement poétiques plutôt que botaniques.
Son utilisation comme oracle est moderne. Il n'existe aucune preuve médiévale de l'utilisation de l'Ogham à des fins divinatoires. La pratique telle qu'elle existe aujourd'hui a été largement élaborée au XXe siècle, s'inspirant de l'ouvrage The White Goddess de Robert Graves et du renouveau celtique. En toute honnêteté, c'est un oracle moderne bien conçu, bâti sur un matériau véritablement ancien.

Comment interpréter les encoches ?
L'Ogham s'écrit le long d'une ligne centrale, avec des groupes d'un à cinq traits au-dessus, en dessous ou à travers celle-ci. Chaque groupe de cinq forme un aicme.
Le calendrier celtique des arbres est-il authentique ?
Non. Il a été élaboré par Robert Graves en 1948 et ne possède aucune base médiévale, bien qu'il ait été largement adopté depuis.
Combien y a-t-il de « fews » ?
Vingt dans l'alphabet originel, avec cinq « forfeda » ajoutés ultérieurement dans la tradition manuscrite. Cet oracle utilise les vingt originaux.
Devrais-je prendre des décisions basées sur une lecture d'Ogham ?
Non. Il est proposé à la réflexion et au divertissement. Utilisez-le pour stimuler votre pensée, et non comme un substitut à un avis ou à des preuves concrètes.
