The sky freezes at the moment of your first breath. This is that photograph — every planet by sign, house and aspect.

In short

Calculate your natal chart from birth date, time and city: sun, moon, rising, every planet, house placements, aspects and elemental balance.

  • Note the chart ruler — the planet ruling your rising sign. Its condition colours everything.
  • Retrograde personal planets turn the function inward before it turns outward; that is delay, not damage.
  • An unaspected planet operates without negotiation and often feels like a separate person living inside the life.
  • Angular placements — near the ascendant, midheaven, descendant or nadir — are the loudest things in the chart.

The natal chart — a map of the heavens frozen at the moment of a first breath — appears in cuneiform horoscopes from around 410 BCE. Hellenistic astrologers added the house system, the ascendant and the aspect doctrine, producing something close to the chart wheel still drawn today. Almost nothing about the geometry has changed in two thousand years; only the arithmetic got faster.

The chart is not a prediction. It is a set of conditions: planets describe functions, signs describe style, houses describe the field of life where the function plays out, and aspects describe how the functions negotiate with each other.

Questions Readers Ask

Which house system should I use?

Placidus is the modern default and is what most software shows. Whole Sign is the older Hellenistic method and is clearer near the poles. Read both; where they agree, trust it.

What is a chart shape?

The distribution of the ten bodies around the wheel — bowl, bundle, splash, seesaw. It describes how concentrated or dispersed the life's attention naturally runs.

Do the outer planets matter personally?

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto move slowly and mark generations, but by house and aspect they become intensely personal.
