Astrologers kept ephemerides and noted what happened under which transit; tarot readers kept card diaries; Chinese almanacs published a daily verdict on what should and should not be attempted. What it adds is the honest test. A reading feels accurate at the moment it is given, when you are primed to find the meaning. It is only accurate if it still reads true three months later, and the only way to know that is to have written it down at the time.
