Spaced Flashcards

Every glossary term and course lesson turned into a review card. Grade each answer honestly and the schedule stretches — days, then weeks, then months — so you only see what you are about to forget.

In short

Study glossary terms and course lessons with adaptive spaced-repetition flashcards: due-card queues, four grades and intervals that stretch as you learn.

  • Learn keywords first, nuance second. The card image will supply the nuance once the keyword is automatic.
  • Mix suits and majors. Blocked practice by suit produces recognition, not recall.
  • Say the answer aloud when you can — spoken retrieval is measurably stronger than silent.
  • Skipping days is survivable; the algorithm will simply return the overdue cards first.

The forgetting curve

6–8

Weeks to fluency

Spaced repetition begins with Hermann Ebbinghaus, who in 1885 memorised nonsense syllables on himself and plotted the forgetting curve — the first measurement showing that review timing matters more than review quantity.

Sebastian Leitner's 1972 box system turned the curve into cardboard: cards you get right move to a slower box, cards you miss come back tomorrow. Piotr Woźniak's SM-2 algorithm made the same idea computational in the 1980s.

Esoteric study has always used cards anyway. The tarot deck is a memory system before it is an oracle, and the Golden Dawn's curriculum was explicitly built on drilling correspondences until they could be recalled instantly.

Questions Readers Ask

How long until I know all 78 cards?

At fifteen to twenty cards a day, most people reach reliable upright recall in six to eight weeks and add reversals over the following month.

What algorithm is used?

SM-2 style scheduling: each honest grade adjusts an ease factor, and the next interval is the previous one multiplied by that ease.

Should I learn reversals at the same time?

No. Upright meanings first as a single stable layer, then reversals as a modifier once the base is automatic.

Is my progress saved?

Yes — schedules persist between sessions, so you can close the page mid-deck and pick up where the intervals left off.
