Cleansing, Grounding and Not Taking It Home
Practical hygiene for anyone who reads regularly — for other people or obsessively for themselves.
Set an edge before you start
Say what the reading is for and what it is not for, out loud if you can. A reading without a boundary tends to sprawl into anxiety, especially when you read for yourself at two in the morning.
Do not re-draw
Asking the same question repeatedly until the answer improves is the single most common way readers lose their own trust. One question, one spread, one day. Write it down and come back in a week.
Cleanse the tools and the room
Smoke, salt, sound or moonlight — the mechanism matters less than the deliberate act of marking an end. Knock the deck, shuffle it fully, and put it away somewhere specific.
Ground afterwards
Eat something. Wash your hands. Step outside. Divination pulls attention upward and inward; the body is what brings it back. Readers who skip this step burn out within a year.
