Long before tarot, people cast objects and read the pattern. The I Ching's hexagrams grew out of Zhou dynasty yarrow-stalk counting, the Elder Futhark runes served as an alphabet and a lot-casting set across northern Europe, geomancy reached medieval Europe from Arabic sources as ilm al-raml, and Lenormand descends from an eighteenth-century parlour game.
What unites them is a deliberately limited grammar. Sixty-four hexagrams, twenty-four staves, sixteen geomantic figures: small enough to learn completely, large enough to say something specific. This topic covers each system as its own tradition rather than folding them all into tarot's vocabulary.

Which divination system suits a beginner?

How often can I ask the same question?
Once, then wait for something in the situation to change. Repeated casting on an unchanged question mostly measures your anxiety.
Do these systems predict the future?
Treat them as structured reflection. They are good at naming the shape of a situation and poor at fixing dates.
Can I combine systems in one reading?
You can, but not usefully at first. Mixed casts tend to produce whichever answer you already preferred.
