Each core number has a different input. Confusing the inputs is the most common beginner error in numerology.

Origins
Number mysticism predates numerology by millennia — Pythagorean tetraktys, Hebrew gematria, Chinese lo shu squares — but the modern system is young. It was assembled in the United States in the early twentieth century, largely by L. Dow Balliett and Juno Jordan, who fixed the letter-to-number table and the four core positions still used today.
Its appeal is that it needs nothing but a birth date and a name. Its limit is the same: nine root numbers cannot carry the detail a chart carries. The features here treat numerology as a fast, memorable frame and say plainly where it stops.
The Method
Reduce the birth date
Add every digit until a single figure remains, holding 11, 22 and 33 unreduced. That is the life path.
Convert the name
Letters to numbers gives the expression number; vowels alone give the soul urge; consonants give the personality.
Read the four together
Life path is the road, expression the vehicle, soul urge the motive, personality the paint. Any one alone is misleading.
Place the current year
Add your birth month and day to the current year and reduce. That personal year sets the tone for the next twelve months.
